When I decided to revive my Wylder Tales series, I pictured what they call a minimal relaunch. I thought I could simply recover and clean up the old drafts. Yet once I started reading over my original drafts, I uncovered countless story and dialogue issues. So I decided to begin with a soft rewrite.

And then I rewrote the beginning entirely…

And before I knew it, only the bare bones of my original novel remained.

We’ve always defined ourselves by the ability to overcome the impossible. And we count these moments. These moments when we dare to aim higher, to break barriers, to reach for the stars, to make the unknown known. We count these moments as our proudest achievements. But we lost all that. Or perhaps we’ve just forgotten that we are still pioneers. And we’ve barely begun. And that our greatest accomplishments cannot be behind us, that our destiny lies above us.

INTERSTELLAR
2014, dir. Christopher Nolan

Watching this the other night and realizing it’s already been 10 YEARS since Interstellar was released.

Here she set her arms about B e r e n, and kissed him bidding him await her beyond the Western Sea; and he looked upon her eyes ere the spirit left him. But the starlight was quenched and darkness had fallen even upon L ú t h i e n Tinuviel…For the spirit of Beren at her bidding tarried in the halls of Mandos, unwilling to leave the world, until Lúthien came to say her last farewell upon the dim shores of the Outer Sea, whence Men that die set out never to return. But the spirit of Lúthien fell down into darkness, and at the last it fled, and her body lay like like a flower that is suddenly cut off and lies for a while unwithered on the grass.

Happy Friday, friends! When I found out the author of this novel was a 6th-generation Texan, I had to take a peek at her novel, The Knotted Ring. Turns out this not only has gorgeous cover art and an intriguing premise but is a semi-finalist in the Laramie Awards for Western and Americana Fiction. WOW y’all, that’s huge! Congrats to Myra and we wish you the best of luck! To those of you lucky enough to see this post, keep scrolling to learn more and enter the raffle!

The Lost Witch Update

Crows cawed overhead as he approached the place where it happened, the place he had nearly lost her months before.

An oversight he could not allow to happen again.

And yet…

He opened his hands and the tangled briars peeled back, carrying their blood-red blossoms with them. The blooms were most concentrated further in.

The Dark Lord knelt in a bed of rose petals and gathered a handful in his palm. When he crushed them, the petals oozed a thick warm substance, familiar to him in any lifetime.

His eyes fluttered shut as a wave of the witch’s scent thickened in the air and brought his fist to his mouth to taste her blood. So brilliant, his little witch, but they had made her bleed. They would suffer every slight tenfold unto their deaths and beyond before he was through.

“Soon,” he murmured a promise as he opened his eyes, and smiled as he hissed his first command.

Snakes slithered through the rose petals, appearing from their hiding places in the logs and tree roots in this abandoned corner of the Forbidden Forest. Snakes of every size and color. The largest, Nagini, rolled in contented circles as she followed Tom to the pulsing heart of this beautiful aberration. He murmured low and spread his hands over the earth as he began the spell.

A sigh filled the wind, a sigh just like her voice as the Dark Lord’s hands began to shake.

With a sudden wrench and rip, he brought his hands into fists.

Crows were flung violently from their perches, filling the air with their cries as every vine and infected tree was wrenched from existence.

Tom Riddle shuddered as he drew in a breath and turned to inspect his work. He rubbed his hands together, savoring the essence still painting his fingers, and looked back at the glowing lights illuminating Hogwarts. “Not much longer, little phoenix.”

The crows startled again as he disapparated silently into the night.

What’s this? Oh, nothing just my current WIP of Chapter 17: The Triwizard Tournament ;) While I’m steadily chipping away at this monster chapter, I wanted to offer something a bit extra for those of you who have been so lovely lately. Thank you again for following my stories, especially the Killing Me Softly series. With any luck, I’ll finally finish Part 2 before the year’s out!
